product description

In his old age, a man from Lower Silesia remembers the time when he was deployed on the southern and eastern fronts in a special commando unit of the Navy after completing a flight training with the Luftwaffe. In the darkness, he swam sabotage missions against ships and bridges in the Mediterranean and the Oder.

Walter Lewandowski experienced what was probably one of the most extraordinary training courses in the German armed forces, he received several awards and gives a detailed account of his career in „Lehrkommando 700" and „Einsatzgruppe Keller". As a Silesian, he also talks about his old homeland and the search for his family after the war.

Walter Lewandowski, most recently with the rank of lieutenant, was honoured with the German Cross in Gold, the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Class, as well as the Parachutist Badge, the Glider Pilot Badge and the 3rd Degree Small Combat Auxiliaries Badge.
